Honey is sweet and nutritious! Not only is a perfect substitute for sugar but it also contains several beneficial food, health, and beauty alternatives and uses. What most people don’t know is the truth about how honey bees collect and process nectar into honey. Worker bees collect the nectar from flowers, then ingest it into their nectar-only stomachs for digestion. When the older collector bees get back to the hive, they vomit the nectar to be further processed by younger processor bees who break down the nectar into sucrose and fructose. They then deposit the honey into the combs and flap their wings to help evaporate excess water. The whole process may not be appealing, but the end product is so nutritious in so many ways.

The health benefits of honey are too numerous to be named which is yet another reason honey has coined the phrase “nectar of the gods.” Here are some of those benefits and alternatives uses of honey:

Health
Heal Wounds, Cuts, Scrapes & Burns – Honey works as a natural antiseptic. Simply apply honey to the affected area and let the honey do the rest of the work.

Remove Parasites – Combine equal parts honey, vinegar, and water. Drink the  combination of these three ingredients to kill unwanted parasites.

Beauty
Moisturize Dry Skin – Honey is a fantastic moisturizer, especially on dry patches, like your elbows or hands. You can even use it on your lips as a lip balm.  

Remove Acne – Stubborn acne can really benefit from a small daily dab of honey. Place a band-aid over your zit and take it off 30 minutes later.

Food
Energy Booster – Replace that daily cup of coffee with a with a cup of tea. Mix in a tablespoon or so of honey to get a good surge of energy throughout the day.

Substitute Honey for Sugar in Baking – For every cup of sugar a recipe calls for, replace it with 3/4 cup of honey. For best results, add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and reduce another liquid in your recipe by 1/4 cup. Also, reduce the oven temperature by 25 degrees.
