It seems there are all sorts of fresh ideas popping up lately with whole new ways to disrespect the American Flag. First, it’s NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick sitting down for the national anthem as a way to end racial injustice in America. Now it appears U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe, in what she refers to as a “little nod” to Kaepernick, is taking a knee at her soccer games to end LGBT discrimination. Next thing you know, somebody will be laying down to end discrimination against blondes. Or maybe standing on their heads. On Monday, President Obama added his two cents, which he usually only does if he’s got a horse in the race. He issued a statement just to confirm that Kaepernick has the right to sit down. Wow. Thanks Mr. President. That’s not to say that their causes aren’t worthy. They are. But in another time and another place, sitting or kneeling might have been met with a bullet. Thankfully, our military took that bullet for us. And for our country. That was a real act of heroism. The national anthem is our “little nod” to them and to the country they fought and died for.
