Adam Schiff Gains Support for Run at Senate

(UnitedVoice.com) – Political experts believe Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is going to retire soon. Though she has not announced her decision, Democrats are already positioning themselves to take her seat. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is one of the Liberals running for the seat, and he’s reportedly gaining support.

On June 2, Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA) endorsed Schiff for Senate. He spoke to the Sacramento Bee, saying he made the endorsement because he liked what Schiff demonstrated in a leadership role. He mentioned that he saw the congressman “holding the line” during former President Donald Trump’s administration. Then, Bera said the whole country saw what his colleague achieved when the House impeached the 45th POTUS twice and during the January 6 debacle.

Bera praised Schiff for his work as the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He said that he believes “national security experience is incredibly important.” Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (D-CA) kicked Schiff off the committee when Republicans took the majority.

In addition to Bera, POLITICO reported former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has endorsed Schiff. In February, the longtime congresswoman said Feinstein would have her support if she decided to run again. If not, Pelosi said she would support Schiff because he “knows well the nexus between a strong Democracy and a strong economy.” She claimed he “focused on strengthening [America’s] Democracy with justice and on building an economy that works for all.”

Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA), Eric Swalwell (D-CA), Julia Brownley (D-CA), and several other current members of Congress have endorsed Schiff, as have various California officials, labor officials, and state senators.

Schiff isn’t the only current member of Congress running for the Senate. Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) has also announced she’s running for the seat. Porter is a single mother who represents Orange County. Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) has also thrown her hat into the ring.
