(UnitedVoice.com) – When thousands of truckers descended on Ottawa, Canada, to protest the vaccine mandates in the country, they started a movement in the United States, as well. A group of truckers is traveling from California to Washington, DC, ahead of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address. In response, the Pentagon has made a shocking decision.

On Wednesday, February 23, the Department of Defense approved the deployment of 700 unarmed National Guard troops ahead of the protest. On Tuesday, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said the troops will help with crowd control and keeping traffic flowing. The Capitol Police are also reinstalling safety fences around the Capitol building. Kirby said the service members won’t be issued firearms and won’t surveil any US or foreign person. If they see criminal activity, they’re being instructed to report it to authorities.
The nation’s capital is where Americans go when they want to protest something the government is doing. There are countless demonstrations there each year, some big and some small. Thousands of Democrats marched on the Capitol in October for the Women’s March and the Pentagon didn’t send National Guard troops then, so why are they authorizing it for the trucker convoy?
