One of Donald Trump’s chief complaints during the campaign was that some of the protesters at his events were paid to be there. Either he wasn’t far off the mark, or a new scam is going around offering jobs to do just that. Maybe both.
Backstage.com has been running ads looking for protesters to attend 6 events a year. The pay isn’t bad… $50 an hour with a monthly stipend of $2,500 a month just to be on the roster. But is it the real thing? Doubtful.
The ads direct interested parties to visit DemandProtest.com, a site created just last month. They claim to be an LLC, but there is no record of them registering as one.
Let’s face it, you don’t have to be anything to claim it online and make people believe it.

If it is a hoax, why bother to post ads online?
The answer is most likely the same one that keeps turning up when befuddled Americans ask “But, why?” Money. The pay offered, coupled with interviews and news reports could mean a lot of traffic to the site itself.
Donald Trump is going to be the next president of the United States. Like it, love it, or hate it. And hell, America was built on civil movement. So, those who want to protest it are free to do so. But, protesting for money does nothing but make a sham out of your right to free speech, whether payment goes through or not.
For once during this entire campaign and turnover, wouldn’t it be nice if America didn’t give the world a reason to scratch their heads in wonder and amusement? Apparently, it may be too late for that.
