(UnitedVoice.com) – Thomas Paine said, “These are the times that try men’s souls.” Americans can tolerate a lot of things. Last spring, America generally conceded to restricting Constitutional liberties and rights to limit the spread of COVID-19. America tolerates corrupt politicians who talk nice to the public but privately put their interests above all else. What we, the people, may not tolerate is blatant hypocrisy when our lives and livelihoods are on the line.
When COVID-19 first reared its ugly head, scientists and the medical community knew little about the virus. There was a strong case made for lockdowns to prevent hospitals and the medical system from being overwhelmed. The cost wasn’t just a major economic calamity that America will deal with for years to come. People who needed serious medical help and surgeries were delayed, and mental health suffered.
Now, states and cities being run by Democratic Governors and Mayors are implementing harsh restrictions once again just ahead of Thanksgiving. Across the country, families are being told they cannot gather for a Thanksgiving meal with one another. Some haven’t seen their families in a year. Depression is just as serious an issue as COVID-19. Yet, as usual, Democrats are creating arbitrary rules that seem poorly thought through. For example, in Pennsylvania, one cannot purchase alcohol after 5 pm on Thanksgiving Eve if dining out.
Unfortunately, that just scratches the surface of what some Democrats are doing as they enact restrictions on their citizens which they continually get caught ignoring.
What Is Going on With Democrat Hypocrisy?
Since instructing citizens to make sacrifices, several Democratic leaders have chosen not to do so themselves. Of course, nothing much changes for them. They still get paid, and their lifestyles don’t change much because they make and enforce the rules in Democratic strongholds.
What have some of these Democrats actually sacrificed?
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) openly violated his own order and enjoyed a birthday party with friends at a restaurant. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot told residents to sacrifice Thanksgiving just days after saying to a crowd of hundreds without a mask that celebrating Joe Biden’s win was necessary. Or, what about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) getting her hair done when salons were shut down? Let’s not forget about how Democratic governors tried to silence protests against their lockdowns last spring only to march with Black Lives Matter protestors arm-in-arm a few weeks later.
Perhaps even worse, just a few days ago, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) ordered private gatherings limited to no more than 10 people, masks required, and social distancing is mandatory. Now, an entire group of New York Democrats got caught in Brooklyn celebrating a birthday for a local political celebrity. They didn’t wear masks, didn’t social distance, and were well above the maximum of 10 people. When asked about it, they mocked and flouted the restrictions as if they deserved a special exemption.
When @ShantRS asked Frank Seddio, one of the most powerful men in Brooklyn, about how he attended a totally covid-unacceptable party on Saturday, Seddio responded:
“I farted about four times, but fortunately it didn’t smell.”https://t.co/n2nBZEKnes

America Deserves Better
At this time, especially, Democrats should be sensitive to playing by the rules they create. Rules that are easy for them to follow but punishing for everyday people. This sort of behavior is the danger of one-party rule anyplace. Unfortunately, it seems that Democrats are either tone-deaf or don’t care.
Why should they? After all, they have a “D” behind their name and will likely face no backlash of significance in places like New York City, Chicago, or California. The “D” behind their name will protect them from the media, which acts as more of a party apparatus than as a check on bad behavior on their “chosen” politicians in the Democratic Party.
John Adams once said, “Power must never be trusted without a check.”
Accountability is sorely needed by those who flaunt the rules they create. Without accountability, politicians only become more perverse in thoughts and actions and stretch the boundaries of what they can get away with.
Will America hold those accountable who tread on her liberties while preserving their own?
We shall see.
