(UnitedVoice.com) – More than a year into his term, President Joe Biden still hasn’t managed to appoint a head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). Now he’s making another attempt. Of course, his potential nominee is a gun grabber.
Last September, Biden withdrew his original nominee to lead the ATF, Dave Chipman, over concerns from Republican and moderate Democrat senators that Chipman’s extreme anti-gun views made him unsuitable for the job. Now, White House sources say Biden has a new candidate, former US Attorney Steve Dettelbach.
BREAKING: The Biden admin is considering ANOTHER anti-gun nominee for ATF Director.⁰⁰Steve Dettelbach has called for banning “assault weapons” and endorsed universal background checks.⁰⁰He is the wrong pick for the ATF and GOA will fight back.⁰⁰https://t.co/hCTm8jAa2u

Dettelbach, a Democrat, has a long track record of attacks on the Second Amendment. During his campaign for Ohio Attorney General, he called for the reinstatement of the failed “assault weapon” ban. He’s demanded universal background checks, and his Twitter timeline is full of calls for tighter gun control.
Sources say Biden believes Dettelbach will have an easier ride in the Senate confirmation process than Chipman did, but that might be wishful thinking. Dettelbach’s positions on gun control cross a lot of red lines for 2A defenders, and few Republican senators will be willing to support someone who has been openly opposed by the NRA in the past. Many senior Democrats will back his nomination, but will Biden be able to persuade enough Republicans to back him? Right now it looks unlikely – which is good news for anyone who values our constitutional rights.
