Biden Signs EO Advancing Consideration of Medicaid for Feticide

Biden SIGNED It — It’s Official!

(UnitedVoice.com) – Unwilling to accept the landmark June 24 Supreme Court ruling that reversed Roe v Wade, President Biden has signed an executive order (EO) that tries to sidestep the law. The order aims to help women who want an abortion to obtain one in liberal states. However, critics are already saying it violates a federal ban on funding the procedure.

On August 3, Biden signed the Executive Order on Securing Access to Reproductive and Other Healthcare Services. In it, he asked Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra to look into avenues where women who travel to a different state to undergo the procedure could use Medicaid payments. With several states already tightening abortion laws in response to the Supreme Court ruling, it’s a clear attempt to encourage people to shop around for laws that suit them — and get the taxpayer to pick up the tab.

The EO immediately came under fire for potentially violating the Hyde Amendment, originally passed in 1976 and updated several times since, banning the use of federal funds to pay for abortion except in cases of rape or incest or to save the life of the mother. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre insisted the action doesn’t breach the Hyde Amendment, claiming, “It is law, and we follow the law here,” — but it’s difficult to see how using federal money to facilitate out-of-state abortions wouldn’t violate the spirit of the amendment.
