Biden Wants to Nominate Lobbyist With Disturbing Past

( – President Joe Biden is continuing to staff his administration nearly three months into his first term. While some haven’t been the best choices, one of his latest picks is causing a lot of controversy.

On Wednesday, April 7, Politico reported Biden is in talks with Amos Hochstein about a position in the State Department. The plan is to make him a special envoy in order to kill the Russia-Germany gas pipeline known as Nord Stream 2. Hochstein, who used to work for former President Barack Obama, is facing criticism for his job as a lobbyist. During his time at Cassidy and Associates, his portfolio included work for the dictator of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema — a man who has been accused of cannibalism.

Hochstein has defended his work for the violent dictator. He claimed Obiang has “deep care for his people.” Meanwhile, journalists are reportedly regularly jailed and the country’s police force tortures people.

The White House refuses to comment on the matter.
