(UnitedVoice.com) – White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki came under fire recently for saying Republicans are the people who really support the “defund the police” movement. She claimed that because they didn’t want to pass the American Rescue Plan earlier this year that included police funding, they proved they were the actual proponents of the movement to reduce law enforcement budgets. However, when she was asked to prove her ridiculous allegation, she was unable to do so.
On Wednesday, June 30, Psaki was unable to name a single Republican who supported the defund the police movement. Instead, she doubled down on her talking point, saying President Joe Biden “ran and won” with more votes than any “candidate in history on a platform of boosting funding for law enforcement after Republicans spent decades trying to cut the COPS program.” She said there doesn’t need to be any “new comments” from lawmakers because those actions prove they’re anti-cop.
That's because there wasn't a single Republican who called for defunding police.
That was a concept exclusive to Democrats who openly pushed for it right up until they saw how poorly it polled. https://t.co/QToCDVwce4

The absurdity of her comments is startling. Lawmakers on the Left, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), have repeatedly said point blank that they think law enforcement should be defunded. Democratically-run cities, like Minneapolis, have gone through with plans to do that and experienced a rise in crime. Meanwhile, Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) have given law enforcement bonuses. It’s categorically false that the Right wants to defund the police and there’s plenty of evidence to prove that.
