Two tankers, the Kokura Courageous (Japan) and Front Altair (Norway), were critically damaged in the Strait of Hormuz. The Japanese freighter is carrying chemicals, while the Norwegian one is filled with oil. Thankfully, neither one sunk and their cargo is still intact.
Iran isn’t claiming responsibility for the attack.
An explosion erupted on the Front Altair, though the cause is still unknown. Nearly 30% of the world’s crude oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, which makes the location highly contested in the geopolitical realm.
Investigations from all over the world are taking place and diplomats are struggling to determine what truly happened.
