(UnitedVoice.com) – The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers are no strangers to targeted attacks. As the people tasked with protecting the country’s second-largest city, they are often in harm’s way. Recently, a station was attacked with a dangerous weapon.
On Thursday, April 6, a woman walked into the LAPD station in Exposition Park with a shopping cart that was lit on fire. The ceiling, front doors, and lobby chairs all caught ablaze. The suspect ran out of the building after the attack.
Law enforcement shared photos of the charred interior of the building the next morning and announced the station was closed indefinitely. The post encouraged people in the area to make online reports. Those who need to speak to a detective or officer in-person are able to do that by visiting any local station.
On Friday afternoon, the LAPD announced the arrest of 30-year-old Mishauna Eaton for arson of a structure. She’s being held in jail on a $250,000 bail.
We can confirm that due to great work by Detectives and Patrol Officers from Southwest Division, 30 year old Mishauna Eaton (Booking #6581937) has been arrested for 451 (B) PC- Arson Structure, and is being held on $250,000 bail. https://t.co/rWqyixfH5W

According to the Los Angeles Times, the woman was arrested about 3 a.m. after the fire on suspicion of arson. LAPD spokeswoman Lt. Letisia Ruiz said patrol officers picked Eaton up about four blocks away from the police station. Surveillance footage was reportedly what tied her to the crime. The official did not say what the alleged suspect’s motives might have been.
Fortunately, nobody was injured in the attack.
The latest arson isn’t the only time someone has lit a police precinct on fire. During the George Floyd protests in 2020, a crowd gathered around the Third Precinct in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Members of the group threw Molotov cocktails at the building, lighting it on fire and destroying it. Four defendants were later convicted and sentenced in federal court for their roles in the arson.
