(UnitedVoice.com) – The origin of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a hot topic for the last year. Republicans have become increasingly convinced that a lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology caused the deadly outbreak. Now, a group of representatives is asking Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to open an investigation.
On September 14, Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) and more than a dozen House Republicans sent a letter to Pelosi asking her to issue subpoenas for those “involved in approving, conducting, or funding gain-of-function or related research.” The representatives are asking she compel both EcoHealth Alliance President Dr. Peter Daszak, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, and others to speak.
“This pandemic has impacted the life of every American.”
“Investigating the origin and finding the truth of how this virus came to be is imperative to Congress doing everything we can to prevent this from happening again.”

Recent information revealed EcoHealth, which received millions of dollars in government funding to conduct research at Wuhan, was specifically studying coronavirus in bats. The Intercept published documents gained through Freedom of Information Act requests proving it. Although the grants specifically barred the group from using the money for gain-of-function research, it’s still concerning, and Americans deserve answers. As Roy points out, the government needs to learn more to prevent it from happening again.
