Congressman Has Accident at His Home

(UnitedVoice.com) – Sometimes, the right person appears in the right place at just the right time. That’s what happened in Sarasota, Florida, recently when a US congressman suffered a serious accident at his home.

On Wednesday, January 18, Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) was standing on a ladder and cutting tree limbs at his home. Suddenly, he fell about 25 feet off the ladder and landed on the ground. Fortunately, delivery driver Darrell Woodie was dropping off a package nearby when he witnessed the fall.

The man rushed to Steube’s aid and dialed 911. Ironically, Woodie serves as a field representative for the other US congressman in the area, Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL). He reportedly delivers packages for Amazon in his off time. Fox 13 News obtained audio of the 911 call. Listeners can hear Woodie congratulating Steube for winning reelection and telling the dispatcher that the representative was “bruised up.” First responders arrived within 10 minutes.

According to a message on Steube’s Twitter account, he spent the night in the ICU at a local hospital. He was moved out of the unit on Thursday, but he remained hospitalized.

Steube comes from a family dedicated to community service in Florida. His father, Brad Steube, was the sheriff for Manatee County, just south of Tampa, for a decade before retiring. His brother is also a law enforcement officer. And before going to Capitol Hill in 2019, the representative served in the US Army and the Sunshine State’s legislature.

The congressman strongly supports former President Donald Trump and serves on the Judiciary, Oversight, and Veterans Affairs Committees.

Steube’s accident comes months after Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) died in a head-on collision in Indiana. Authorities faulted the representative’s driver, Zachery Potts, for the accident. He and another passenger, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, all died.
