(UnitedVoice.com) – In a scathing rebuke of the Democratic Party, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) said he couldn’t be a part of the party anymore as it abandons its roots. Last fall, Van Drew switched sides during the impeachment against President Trump. Earlier this week, far-left Democratic squad members Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) announced they’re presenting the “Breathe Act.” The bill seeks to defund police and radically change public safety policy. Van Drew said it was policies like the Breathe Act that led him to switch parties.

Van Drew said the party transformed from promoting a strong America where the military, education, production, and manufacturing were vital to America’s success. He asked if America is ready to fall apart, become weak, and exist in dependency. As the party continues its rapid shift left, Van Drew said, “This is why I left. I couldn’t do it anymore.”
Last month, Van Drew won the GOP primary in a race to keep his seat against long-time GOP conservative Bob Patterson, a former speechwriter in the George W. Bush administration. The Cook Political Report analysis of the district says it leans Republican in the 2020 general election in November.
