Dad Sparks Backlash by Refusing to “Babysit” Daughter

Dad Sparks Backlash Refusing to 'Babysit' Daughter,

(UnitedVoice.com) – A father on Reddit’s popular AITA (Am I the A—hole) forum is facing backlash online after ranting about his wife’s vacation plans. People have very strong opinions about his parenting.

A 29-year-old father asked Redditors if he was in the wrong after having a disagreement with his 25-year-old wife, a stay-at-home mom. According to him (he’s not named), he gave his wife two tickets to visit her grandmother in Italy. The first ticket was for herself and the other for their 4-year-old daughter. After receiving the tickets, his wife said that she wanted to go on the trip by herself. She told her husband she needs a break from children.

The Reddit user told his wife no. He said she needed to take their daughter because he doesn’t “want to take time off [work] to babysit” their child the week his partner is gone. The social media platform was not on his side.

Respondents pointed out that when two people have a child they both have a responsibility to watch the youngster. A parent cannot “babysit” a child who is their responsibility to begin with. Others pointed out that his wife does all of the domestic duties as a stay-at-home mom. That’s her job and when she leaves the home to go on vacation, it makes sense that she’s want to take a break from all of her duties as a wife and mother.

What do you think? Is his wife wrong for wanting a break? Is the father wrong for referring to his paternal responsibility as babysitting? Let us know what you think.
