Dangerous Sanctuary County Finally Changing Policies

Dangerous Sanctuary County Finally Changing Policies

We have an update on the anti-ICE county in Maryland that’s been letting illegal immigrants run free, putting its citizens in danger.

In July, Marc Elrich, a Montgomery County Executive, signed an order forbidding police departments and jails from cooperating with ICE. This led to an onslaught of dangerous illegal immigrants being allowed to live in the community, seven of whom have been arrested for rape and crimes against children.

Although citizens were expressing their outrage, county officials seemed set on sticking to current policies, until recently.

A notice was sent out on November 5th to Montgomery County correctional officers that ICE agents are now allowed in “identified areas” of the county jail to conduct transfers. In order to do this, ICE has to submit immigration detainers. The jail still isn’t allowed to hold immigrants with detainers, but if ICE shows up prior to the scheduled release date, they can take custody.

Montgomery County is trying to keep this policy change quiet, but we want to make sure that the world knows what is going on. They still have a long way to go before citizens of the county can sleep soundly at night, but this is a step in the right direction.
