(UnitedVoice.com) – Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) has served the state of Connecticut in the US Senate since 2011. Prior to that, he served as the attorney general of the state for two decades. Recently, the 77-year-old public servant underwent surgery.
On April 9, the senator congratulated the Quinnipiac University Bobcats, the men’s hockey team, for winning the national championship. He then revealed he’d undergone surgery that day to repair a fracture in his upper femur. The break was minor, but he still had to go under the knife to get it fixed. He thanked the staff at Stamford Hospital.

The lawmaker revealed he hurt himself on Saturday. He broke his leg after walking in the University of Connecticut’s NCAA men’s basketball championship parade. Blumenthal explained that a fellow paradegoer tripped and fell on him in a tweet responding to his fellow Connecticut senator, Chris Murphy (D). According to Murphy, Blumenthal finished marching in the parade after he suffered the injury.

On Sunday, Blumenthal said that he has already started physical therapy to help heal. However, he joked that he wouldn’t be marching in any more parades for the next couple of weeks. The senator said he was grateful to everyone who called him or messaged their well wishes in other ways.
Blumenthal isn’t the only senator to suffer injuries lately. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fell in early March and spent about a week in the hospital. The fall, which happened during a private dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in the capital, resulted in both a head injury and a rib fracture. After being released from the hospital, he checked into inpatient physical therapy. He returned home in late March after completing that program.
McConnell is expected to return to the Senate after the recess, which ends on the week of April 17.
