Democrats BLOCK Important Law – They Did It Again!
(UnitedVoice.com) – During the 2020 presidential campaign, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden claimed that then-President Donald Trump’s immigration policies were inhuman. He vowed to rescind Trump’s executive orders keeping illegal immigrants out of America. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck America in March 2020, Trump ordered the Border Patrol to follow Title 42, a public health provision that allows the Border Patrol to immediately expel illegal immigrants without a court order to protect public health and safety.
In March, the Biden administration announced it would end Title 42. Yet, it continued to demand US citizens mask up on public transportation and government facilities while punishing federal employees who resisted COVID vaccines. In May, a federal judge ordered the administration to keep the provision in place while the courts worked out the issue. Still, Democrats keep finding ways to block plans that would continue Title 42.
Democrats Block Latest Common Sense Title 42 Legislation
So far in 2022, Democrats blocked four pieces of legislation that would have kept Title 42 in place. On Wednesday, June 22, House Democrats took exception to the GOP’s fifth attempt to prevent the Biden administration from lifting Title 42 prematurely. The legislation’s block comes while massive waves of immigrants continue flowing northward through Mexico toward the United States’ southern border.
In 2021, Rep. Yvette Herrell (R-NM) filed the Protecting Americans from Unnecessary Spread upon Entry (PAUSE) Act. On Wednesday, Democrats blocked the legislation. If passed into law, the legislation would require the Biden administration to keep Title 42 in place until:
- The federal government lifts all quarantines, curfews, stay-at-home orders, and other mandates related to COVID-19
- The federal government ends all COVID-19-related health emergencies
- The Federal Government and specifically, the CDC, reduce published risk levels to Level 1 for travelers coming from Canada and Mexico
Herrell noted that former Acting CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan stated that Title 42 was instrumental in containing and mitigating COVID-19. He added that rescinding it would be dangerous to the CBP workforce, Americans, and immigrants.
Biden Administration Transforms Immigration
The Center for Immigration Studies revealed that since October 1, 2021, Border Patrol agents encountered nearly 1.06 million illegal immigrants at the southern border. In April, the CBP said in a court filing that it encountered 221,303 migrants and that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released over 80,000 of them into the United States.
The Biden administration is apparently planning to turn border enforcement into a checkpoint policy that would grant fast access to the US. Yet, does that violate federal immigration laws, and does the executive branch have the Constitutional authority to add to or transform the law on its own?
