(UnitedVoice.com) – The Biden administration is determined to impose new restrictions on Second Amendment rights, and it’s using a formidable range of arguments to justify its actions. The problem is, many of those arguments turn out to be based on myths.
Here are the top three falsehoods being pandered by the administration:
- Anti-gun activists like to talk about the “gun show loophole,” and how it needs to be closed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. President Biden himself has claimed that gun shows are unregulated. As recently as this April he said, “you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want, and no background check.” However, that isn’t actually true. Any federally licensed seller has to carry out background checks on every gun sale – including at gun shows.
- Gun grabbers say we need universal background checks so felons can’t buy guns. The reality is that most criminals don’t buy guns legally anyway. Research shows that of prison inmates who had a gun when they committed their crimes, only 7% had bought them legally from a licensed dealer; 56% had stolen or found their weapons or bought them on the black market.
- Finally, there’s the assault weapon myth. Gun control advocates are fixated on the AR15 and other modern sporting rifles; flagship anti-gun laws like the 1994 assault weapon ban aim to restrict access to these weapons, which just happen to be the most popular firearms in America. The thing is there doesn’t seem to be any reason why it’s so important to ban them. FBI statistics show that all long guns – not just semi-automatic rifles – account for only 2.6% of gun homicides. More people are beaten and kicked to death in the US than are shot with rifles. The idea that semi-automatic rifles are a danger to society is just another myth.
Gun Myths Are Driving Biden's Anti-2nd Amendment Policy Push: What they fail to tell is most deaths are from suicide. Every year from 2015-2019 an average of 23,500 people died from gun-related suicide vs 14k people died from gun-related homicide. CDC. https://t.co/kd3shRT4wZ

The Second Amendment is a sacred pillar of the United States Constitution. The Founding Fathers did what they had to do to protect the Republic from the tyranny they had experienced in the past. Any attempts to change or restrict guns shouldn’t be based on myths and half-truths.
