Democrats Undermine the Foundation of the Constitution

( – With every day that passes, it becomes obvious that Democrats are the party of pessimism. During their convention in August, presidential nominee Joe Biden said the country was in a season of darkness. On Thursday, October 22, the former vice president said America was headed for a dark winter. These are ominous words as Democrats begin using extreme language that could undermine the US Constitution’s very foundations.

Unfortunately, Biden isn’t alone in his dark, pessimistic, and apocalyptic assessment of America. The party has leaned negative in its worldview for decades. It makes sense if you consider that the Democrat’s massive government agenda is predicated on the notion that liberalism will save people from themselves and provide for their needs through government vices. Ultimately, this ideology centralizes power over the people – the very thing the Constitution is trying to prevent.

It’s a stark contrast with conservatism that believes hope, opportunity, and happiness are the mechanisms for optimism that encourage independence from the government through family, friends, and hard work.

The 2020 election, and the confirmation of now-Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, reflected this growing divide. America is in the midst of an intellectual and practical battle between two forces who advocate for either a bigger, more powerful government or a big enough already too-powerful government.

In the end, America has to decide if the Constitution is worth fighting for or not.

Dangerous Words in Difficult Times

Now that the Senate has confirmed Justice Barrett, Democrats are threatening retaliation. Democrats painted a picture that a 6-3 conservative court would strip people of their healthcare and abortion during Senate hearings. However, that was a facade. What Democrats really want is power and control.

In 1964, America was at another crossroads. In his great speech titled, “A Time for Choosing,” Ronald Reagan said:

“…we were told a few days ago by the President, we must accept a greater government activity in the affairs of the people… “the full power of centralized government” — this was the very thing the Founding Fathers sought to minimize. They knew that governments don’t control things. A government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they know when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose.”

Democrats Threaten the Constitution

Leading up to the vote of Justice Barrett, and afterward, Democrats from the top-down began threatening Republicans and the Constitution itself.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) warned that Barrett’s confirmation was “one of the darkest days” in Senate history. Sound familiar? He went on to say that if Democrats win the majority back in the Senate, they will threaten to “pack” the court with more liberal justices than conservatives. Far-left Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) called for the expansion of the court immediately after the Senate voted to confirm Barrett.

The idea is a smack in the face of the Constitution. The court isn’t supposed to be political. Yet, that’s what Democrats are making it.

What would be the purpose of this type of radical action by Democrats?

Schumer went on to warn that Republicans would “speed the precipitous decline of faith in our institution, our politics, the Senate and the Supreme Court.” It seems Democrats have already done this by their irresponsible words and threats.

But it gets worse.

On Monday, October 26, Biden said oddly that he would consider “rotating” Supreme Court justices to lower courts. For one, the Constitution gives that authority to no one, least of all the President of the United States. Justices are nominated by the president, confirmed by the Senate, and serve life terms on the high court.

Any other suggestion is wrong and is pandering to the far left for votes with days until the election.

What Are Democrats Really Upset About?

What Democrats are really saying is they will no longer have a court that supports their far-left agenda. However, the purpose of the Supreme Court isn’t to support a political agenda. Its purpose is to ensure that laws are upheld by the standards as outlined in the Constitution.

Democrats should be persuading America that their policies are the right ones and that the country should give them the House, Senate, and presidency. Unfortunately for them, they can’t get enough liberals elected to Congress to do that. Now that they lost the court, they have to turn to extreme, dark, apocalyptic language to inflame enough passion from the left to get the votes they need to win the Congress and presidency and undermine the Constitution.

However, in doing so, they may be alienating much of their center base.

Now more than ever, it’s a good thing the country has a conservative court to ensure that the legislative and executive branches don’t completely fall off the tracks. Though Democrats may attempt to undermine the Constitution out of resentment, it could be a serious challenge for them.

As the country focuses on the election for the next eight days, voters are confronted with the same issue Reagan spoke of when he said,

“This is the issue of this election: whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American Revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.”

What will America decide?
