(UnitedVoice.com) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) isn’t one to let things go if he thinks someone isn’t being honest or if they’re attacking him. That’s what led to a war of words between him and an archbishop.
On February 10, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Miami Thomas Gerard Wenski claimed DeSantis referred to unaccompanied minors who entered the US illegally as “disgusting.” The governor’s spokeswoman, Christina Pushaw, hit back at the archbishop on Twitter, telling him “lying is a sin.”

The church leader had previously been trying to convince the governor to house the illegals in Florida, but the Republican is refusing. Wenski is reportedly upset that DeSantis’ policy to ban the migrants in Florida would shutter a home that houses them and is run by the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami. During a February 7 roundtable discussion with the governor, the archbishop argued the influx of migrants was like the mass exodus from Cuba in the 1960s. DeSantis called the comparison, not the immigrants, “disgusting.”
Florida has been a popular destination for President Joe Biden’s migrant flights. In 2021, a 24-year-old migrant posing as an underage teen murdered a father of four. To prevent a similar incident, DeSantis said state regulators won’t renew licenses for shelters that house illegal children through agreements with the feds.
Do you agree with Governor DeSantis’ position on illegal immigration?
