Does the Left Owe Texas Governor an Apology?

( – For over a year, Democrats argued that the nation needed to follow the science regarding COVID-19 to justify closing state economies, schools, and mandate mask-wearing. In October, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis lifted state restrictions and re-opened his state. Months later, several southern, Republican-led states followed Florida’s lead.

In March, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ended his state’s mask mandate and declared it was time to “open Texas 100%.” The governor added that the government shouldn’t be telling people how to live or operate their businesses. Immediately, Texas became the highest populated state without a mask mandate. As a result of the governor’s order, he was mocked, ridiculed, and chastised for his action. On May 16, the governor said for the first time since the pandemic began in March 2020, Texas reported zero COVID-19 deaths. Should the Left apologize for their words?

Left Attacked Abbott Viciously

Not long after Gov. Abbott lifted the COVID-19 restrictions, the onslaught of negativity and fear-mongering began. President Joe Biden called Abbott’s actions a result of “Neanderthal thinking.” Unfortunately, that was not the worst of it.

Former failed Democratic candidate and Rep. Beto O’Rourke accused Abbott of “killing the people of Texas.” The media couldn’t resist and chimed right in as well. On March 2, the left-leaning Washington Post declared the governor was harming the health of Texas and the nation. They wrote his decision was “premature and reckless.” A Post reporter went as far as to say Abbott was killing Texans. In addition, the media accused the governor of not following CDC directives and even suggested Abbott was a racist.

Whose Science to Believe?

Governors are in a precarious situation, especially when senior health officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci admit they withheld information, manipulated the public, misused the science, and confused Americans. Abbott’s decision to reopen Texas appeared to be the correct decision based on the numbers alone.

On May 16, Gov. Abbott tweeted that two months after lifting restrictions, not only were there zero deaths from COVID-19, the state enjoyed the fewest positive cases in over 13 months, the lowest 7-day positive rate since the pandemic began, and the lowest hospitalization rates since June 2020.

Looks like President Biden, Democrats, and the media owe Abbott an apology after all.
