The Justice Department has decided to open a criminal investigation looking into the Russian probe they performed.
Apparently, the DOJ wants to investigate any interference that Russia played in the 2016 election. It also plans to look into the allegations that President Trump colluded with the country. John H. Durham has been tapped to lead the investigation.
Barr reportedly assigned U.S. Attorney John H. Durham to investigate the origins of the Russia investigation, but this is not the first high-profile case Durham has undertaken. Via @DailyCaller https://t.co/dKcFfSlGX0

While the matter was already looked into by Attorney General William Barr, the DOJ has a good reason for doing its own digging. Opening the case as a criminal inquiry will allow Durham to subpoena documents and witness testimony.
Prior to this, he was only able to interview witnesses if they volunteered and he couldn’t access witness testimonies.
Depending on what he finds, Durham will be able to file charges and put together a grand jury for the case.
