Dr. Fauci Says US Must Be Ready to Reinstate COVID-19 Restrictions

(UnitedVoice.com) – America is finally getting back to normal after more than two years of pandemic chaos. COVID-19 restrictions have become nothing more than a memory in most places around the country. But NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci recently warned it might not stay that way.

During an interview with BBC’s “Sunday Morning,” Fauci said the hospitalizations, cases, and deaths from the virus are decreasing but that doesn’t mean the country is out of the woods yet. He claimed there was evidence that restrictions prevented people from falling ill and dying, but said there were negative impacts as well. Despite acknowledging the negative consequences the restrictions had on families and children across the country, he claimed the American people need to be ready for authorities to implement restrictions, like mandatory masking, again.

Fauci’s comments come as China is locking down cities to prevent the BA.2 Omicron variant from spreading out of control. Its largest city, Shanghai, the financial capital of the country, went on lockdown at the end of March. Austria also reimposed mask mandates just weeks after lifting them. However, there’s a bit of good news, too. Fauci told ABC’s “This Week” he doesn’t think the US will see a surge the way we have in the past.
