(UnitedVoice.com) – Tesla Founder Elon Musk has repeatedly said he doesn’t want help from the US government for his business. In 2021, he even suggested the feds should get rid of all federal subsidies. It turns out, the billionaire might not be in the position he is now if government (both federal and state) didn’t contribute billions to his businesses.
.@elonmusk repeatedly has claimed he doesn't want any help from the U.S. government, but along the way to amassing his $265 billion fortune, the richest man in the world proved far more amenable to accepting Washington's dollars. https://t.co/tY49rIm72X pic.twitter.com/lS8pwFeTyg

According to Newsmax, Musk’s companies SolarCity, SpaceX, and Tesla have accepted billions in government subsidies, including $5 billion since 2015 alone. Some of the subsidies are as follows:
- SolarCity received $750 million from New York state in 2016 to build a plant that produces solar panels. A 2015 Los Angeles Times report revealed the company has received an estimated $1.5 billion in federal subsidies, as well.
- SpaceX won a $2.89 billion contract from NASA in 2021. The Pentagon also gave the company $149 million in subsidies.
- Tesla, perhaps Musk’s most popular company, received $2.5 million in state and federal subsidies. Nevada gave the company $1.3 billion in incentives and tax credits.
There’s no doubt Musk has created brilliant companies that are helping propel America into the future. The US government has not only supported that endeavor with encouragement but also poured money into the businesses. Without the help of taxpayers, who knows whether he’d be the richest man in the world or not.
