Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, President Trump’s former doctor, has filed to run for Congress.
Jackson is running in the Texas 13th District as a Republican. The seat became available after Rep. Mac Thornberry, a longtime GOP incumbent, announced he was retiring in September. The district has a long history of voting Republican, with Trump winning by 63 points in the last election.
The former physician is entering a crowded race, as there are 13 other Republican candidates running for the party’s nomination. Jackson’s decision to run for Congress was announced one week after he retired from the Navy.
The Defense Department’s Inspector General is currently investigating Jackson for mishandling prescription drugs and drinking on the job. He has denied all of the accusations and said they are “completely false and fabricated.”
