(UnitedVoice.com) – Portland, Oregon has been the location of dozens of riots over the last year. Oftentimes, rioters attack buildings, including the Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in the city. That’s what happened on April 10, when there was a fire-related incident at the immigration facility. Two Republicans have had enough and are calling on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to take action.
On May 5, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Rep. John Katko (R-NY) sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about the recent violence in Portland. The lawmakers called on the secretary to develop a plan to respond and deter the rioters from attacking the buildings. That includes deploying more officers to the facilities.

The lawmakers also told Mayorkas that while everyone has a right to free speech, violent attacks on law enforcement are attacks “on the rule of law” and they directly impact the “safety and security of all Americans.” A DHS spokesperson refused to comment about the letter, telling Fox News that the agency responds to Congress through official channels.
