(UnitedVoice.com) – Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) is not the most popular person in the GOP right now. This week, he became the only member of the Senate to break with his party and vote for President Donald Trump’s conviction. As a result of his actions, a Utah lawmaker wants him punished.
State Rep. Phil Lyman filed a resolution to censure the senator. He said that even if the senator’s “motives were pure” his judgment was “questionable.” He went on to say that the state of Utah wants to have a good relationship with the president, so he felt compelled to make that clear.
Lyman, however, in an interview on Fox News, accused Romney of hiding behind his religion:

Romney’s spokesperson, Liz Johnson, refused to discuss the complaint against her boss. She did say that he spoke to lawmakers in his home state for about 90 minutes to explain why he voted as he did.
Whether Lyman’s request is granted remains to be seen.
