GOP Leader Passes Away Suddenly
(UnitedVoice.com) – Representative Hugh McKean (R) was running for his fourth term in the 2022 midterms when he passed away at the age of 55. Sadly, the Colorado House Minority Leader suffered a fatal heart attack on Sunday, October 30.
McKean was first elected to House District 51 back in 2016 and quickly rose through the ranks. Four years after winning the seat, fellow Conservatives elected him to serve as Leader of the Colorado House Republican Caucus in 2020, where he became instrumental in enacting changes. His death hit his colleagues, who say he always had a smile and a positive outlook, hard.

During his time in office, McKean was staunchly supportive of small businesses and didn’t view his position as a typical 9 to 5 job. He took great pride in his community and enacted legislation to keep it safe and provide residents with the resources they needed. His leadership garnered him numerous allies, many of whom took to social media to pay their respects to him.
I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Minority Leader Hugh McKean. Throughout my time serving with him, he always demonstrated his huge heart and was always there with a word of encouragement and an I love you. My thoughts are with his family.

McKean was currently running unopposed in the upcoming midterm elections, and his death leaves the seat open. For now, a Larimer County Republican Party committee will fill the vacancy.
Funeral plans are underway. McKean leaves behind two adult children.
