(UnitedVoice.com) – Harvey Weinstein was once one of the most well-respected figures in Hollywood. His company, The Harvey Weinstein Company, made the careers of many actors and actresses. He fell from grace when multiple women came forward and revealed he’d sexually assaulted them. He was convicted of rape in New York and sentenced to a lengthy prison term. California has now sentenced him as well.
On Thursday, February 23, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lisa B. Lench sentenced Weinstein to 16 years in prison. In December, a jury convicted him of forcible oral copulation, forcible rape, and another horrible sex crime. Weinstein will serve this sentence after serving 23 years in New York.

The charges Weinstein was convicted of in LA were related to a woman known as Jane Doe 1, who said the producer raped her in her hotel room 10 years ago, in February 2013. After the judge handed down the sentence, Evgeniya Chernyshova came forward and revealed she is “Jane Doe 1.”
The “Triggerman” actress told The Hollywood Reporter she was “tired of hiding” and said, “I want my life back. I’m Evgeniya, I’ve been raped. This is my story.”
Weinstein has repeatedly claimed he did not assault anyone. During his sentencing hearing, he accused Chernyshova of lying about the rape, claiming she “turned the tears on” while she spoke because she’s “an actress.”
During the trial, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D) wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, also alleged Weinstein assaulted her. As did Lauren Young, a model. The jury could not reach a conclusion on the charges related to their cases against him.
Weinstein appealed his New York conviction in January. His attorney is arguing New York State Supreme Court Justice James Burke was wrong to allow certain testimony during the trial and also claimed the court ruled against him because of political pressure from the Me Too Movement.
