(UnitedVoice.com) – President Trump’s legal team got their turn to stand up at the podium on Saturday, and after almost three days of listening to the Democrats, it was a refreshing change of pace.
Just like the Democratic House managers, Trump’s team of lawyers has 24 hours over 3 days to present their case. Today, they made it clear that unlike the Dems, they respect the Senate’s time.
Of course, they won’t have to take three days to spin elaborate tales and half-truths since they know their client didn’t do anything wrong. The team spoke for 2 hours today and stated they don’t even plan on using the full 22 hours that are remaining.
Needless to say, many Senators were thrilled with this news. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said he was “ecstatic” with the short presentation. Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) mimicked Graham’s sentiments, adding that it was an “effective” two hours and he thinks, “Short and effective generally go together…that’s what was missing frankly in the manager’s case.”
During today’s presentation, lawyer Jay Sekulow and White House Deputy Counsel Mike Purpura focused on facts, something they claim Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) failed to do over the past three days.
Purpura talked about statements Schiff made about Peisent Trump’s call on July 25 with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Schiff said the call was a “shakedown.” Purpura stated, “That’s fake, that’s not the real call. That’s not the evidence here.”

The White House’s Twitter account worked with the defense team today, making sure the public had access to the slides Purpura used during his time at the podium.
Sekulow also touched base on Schiff’s comments about Trump ignoring advice from US intelligence agencies, defending the president’s decision to “not blindly trust some of the advice he was being given,” by them.
Let the People Decide
Toward the end of the two hours, White House counsel Pat Cipollone turned the tables on the Dems, arguing that it’s not President Trump trying to interfere in the next election, it’s the Democrats themselves.
Cipollone said, “They’re asking you to remove President Trump from the ballot in an election that’s occurring in approximately nine months, they’re asking you to tear up all of the ballots across this country on your own initiative — take that decision away from the American people,” adding that the Senate removing Trump from office would be “an abuse of power.”
Day six of the impeachment trial is set to start on Monday, January 27. Although Trump’s team hasn’t revealed exactly what their arguments will be that day, it’s expected they will continue to focus on the lies told by the House managers over the past few days.
As always, we’ll be here keeping you up to date on all the impeachment trial news as it happens.
