Is COVID-19 the Dream Tool to Turn America Into Europe?

(UnitedVoice.com) – Throughout the last several decades, the Left praised European-style governments that tended towards socialism. Some even campaign on the need to transform America into the likes of Sweden and Denmark. While their system of government may work for a small country, how would it work for one that’s larger and whose people are much more independent?

It’s a question America may face sooner than later. On Monday, July 26, France passed a law requiring a health pass to enter a public facility such as a restaurant, bar, or any other public venue. To get a health passport, one must show proof of full vaccination, continually test negative for COVID-19, or demonstrate they recently recovered. On Wednesday, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) director Rochelle Walensky said the US could head in that direction.

Could European-Style Health Passports Be Required in America?

The fact Walensky made the outlandishly foolish statement of saying the US could institute a French-style health passport system isn’t just alarming. It’s also shocking because it reveals a singular lack of knowledge about America’s system of government from a high-ranking government official. If the federal government mandated a health passport, it could trigger a Constitutional crisis.

The 10th Amendment unambiguously states, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

The federal government is powerless to institute such a mandate. Public health matters are not a purview of the feds. Walensky may intuitively know the courts would immediately get involved and override the mandate. However, the CDC can recommend it, just like it does with new mask guidelines. Still, that didn’t stop her from making the statement.

She’s clever. The path forward to a health passport, according to Walensky, is through local communities where any proposed passport would become a state and local issue. Even that is sketchy and would create a major conflict between municipalities, counties, and states.

Non-standardized rules around passports would generate confusion and criminalize innocent people. Of course, that didn’t stop local and state governments from abusing pandemic powers and violated people’s religious rights during the pandemic. It took the courts’ involvement to remind state and local governments of the pesky founding document ensuring our liberties despite the pandemic — you know, the Constitution.

If You Thought Masks Were Divisive, Just Wait

On Wednesday morning, America re-entered the debate about mask mandates. Even some Democratic governors are bucking the revised CDC guidelines. It’s a politically toxic subject. Health passports are even worse.

In a continuing pattern, Democrats and the Biden administration have been pitting Americans against one another. This time, it’s the vaccinated versus unvaccinated. On Tuesday, Biden insulted half of America after acknowledging the federal government may mandate vaccinations of its entire workforce. He stated, “…if you’re not vaccinated, you’re not nearly as smart as I thought you were.”

Given the rhetoric they’ve been spewing, Biden’s administration could cost Democrats big in 2022. He could even hand-deliver the presidency to a Republican in 2024. However, are political considerations really worth the divisiveness? Unfortunately, of late, the Democrats appear to thrive on separating Americans. They must believe there is a political advantage to it. Well, perhaps there is, but it’s to their disadvantage.

Sometimes, politicians need a good dose of humility. Neither the administration nor the president is above the people. Yet, they sure act like it. It doesn’t bode well for the health of an already deeply divided nation. If the Democrats aren’t careful, they risk going too far.

The fact is, America is not Europe. The founders purposely set up a system of government that is very different from Europe. Let’s hope the side conversations stop and leaders start leading responsibly.
