(UnitedVoice.com) – Last year, then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) created the January 6 committee to look into the events leading up to and during the attack on the Capitol Building. The committee held public hearings with some of the victims that suffered injuries or were at the Capitol that day.
At the end of the investigation, the committee released a report about the matter and materials involved in the probe. Some of that information was forwarded to the Department of Justice and could be used against former President Donald Trump in his DC criminal case. A Republican congressman is now accusing the members of the committee of failing to do its job.
Missing Records
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) spoke to Fox News Digital recently. As the chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight for the Committee on House Administration, he’s investigating Rep. Bennie Thompson’s (D-MS) handling of the January 6 probe. The Republican congressman claimed he has had trouble gathering the information he needs to carry out his oversight investigation.
Loudermilk also accused Thompson’s committee of not investigating the security breaches that led to the January 6 attack. He demanded to know how the Trump supporters were able to get into the Capitol. The conservative said his committee received documents, but they weren’t organized at all.
The chairman claimed that as his team was going through the boxes, he realized he didn’t have all of the depositions on video. He said a defense attorney wanted information that was supposed to be in one of them, but he didn’t have it. Loudermilk claimed Thompson was required by law to preserve all of the data related to his investigation but said he did not do it. Further, the Republican claims the Democrat admitted he didn’t save some of the records.
Specifically, Loudermilk says they don’t have video depositions or information about security breaches.
Republicans Disagree With J6 Committee
The Republican Party, save two members, refused to participate in the January 6 committee after Pelosi rejected members chosen by Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). She said that Rep. Jim Banks (R-OH) and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) should not serve on the committee because they refused to certify the 2020 election and had spoken out against it. As a result, McCarthy pulled everyone. Now-former Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) were the only two conservatives on the committee.
Loudermilk and other Republicans believe the House committee ignored the security problems at the Capitol because they were determined to blame Trump for what happened.
