Joe Biden to Exclude Loan Forgiveness Program From Budge Proposals

(UnitedVoice.com) – In a move that’s sure to disappoint his party’s far-left, President Biden has rolled back on a campaign promise to forgive student debt. The radical move is being pushed by factions like the so-called “Squad” – but it seems Biden has realized it’s a step too far.

There was dismay from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other socialists on May 28, when it emerged that Biden plans to drop debt forgiveness from his budget proposal. Although he used it as a bribe during his campaign, he’s now trying to force unprecedented spending packages through Congress; a massive giveaway to students is likely to be too much to ask for.

In February, two Democrat senators, Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) introduced a resolution calling for Biden to write off $50,000 of debt per student by executive order. AOC wants even more; she’s demanding a full write-off of student debt. However, with the economy still struggling and many working Americans wondering where the next paycheck will come from, there’s little appetite for letting students walk away from the cost of their education.
