(UnitedVoice.com) – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) found herself in the midst of a capital city under siege. Thousands of fed-up conservative citizens flooded the streets of Lansing in protest of her stay-at-home order that has illegally quashed their rights under the United States Constitution.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, one of her Progressive Liberal allies quickly belittled and shamed the exercise. State Rep. Laurie Pohutsky (D-HD19) referred to people exercising their First-Amendment rights as “silly” and “irresponsible.”
Everyone has the right to protest, but to be clear: Lansing is empty. We are almost entirely working remotely. All Operation Gridlock is accomplishing is blocking traffic for essential workers and first responders in the middle of a pandemic. This is silly and irresponsible.

The governor’s edict forbids Michiganders from leaving metro areas to access privately owned second homes or hunting cabins, bans traveling between houses for anything but caring for a person or pet, and outlaws public and private gatherings. As one of the organizers put it:
“Quarantine is when you restrict movement [sic] of sick people. Tyranny is when you restrict the movement of healthy people.”
Elected officials around the country are coping with ways to halt, or a least slow, the spread of COVID-19. It’s truly uncharted waters for America. What many Democrats fail to understand is the nation has survived wars and economic crashes before without extensively curtailing the freedoms that many of her citizens are very protective of. There’s a good reason to be protective of these rights when one looks at the history of the world and studies the horrible failures of Socialism and Communism.
