Jeremy Staat has done it all. He’s a Marine veteran that served in Iraq and played in the NFL for four seasons, now he’s running for Congress in California. His unique history makes him the perfect person to speak out about Colin Kaepernick and his attention-seeking antics.
Instead of celebrating Thanksgiving this year, Kaepernick decided to speak at the Indigenous People’s Sunrise Ceremony, also called Unthanksgiving. The event, which takes place on Alcatraz Island, was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Native Americans taking over the island through a protest that started on November 20, 1969, and lasted almost 2 years.
Spent the morning at the Indigenous People’s Sunrise Ceremony on the 50 year anniversary of the Occupation of Alcatraz. The US government has stolen over 1.5 billion acres of land from Indigenous people. Thank you to my Indigenous family, I’m with you today and always.✊🏽 pic.twitter.com/6cTuktUlQN

During his speech, Kaepernick said:
“It’s been 50 years since the occupation, and that struggle has continued for that 50 years…It’s our responsibility to honor our ancestors and honor our elders by carrying on that struggle. Don’t let their sacrifices be in vain. That’s why it’s important for all of us to be here today — to show that we’re together, that we’re unified, that we have that solidarity. And I hope to spend many more of these with you.”
Later that day, the ex-football player also retweeted a quote from Christopher Petrella indicating that Thanksgiving is a racist holiday.
I wrote this.
Antebellum campaigns to establish Thanksgiving as nat’l holiday grew up alongside colonizationist efforts to remove free Black people from U.S.
Nationalization advocates mobilized white fears of Black equality to build support for holidayhttps://t.co/SXCgFNN5BG

After witnessing all of this happen online, Jeremy Staat decided he had to speak out about it.
Staat didn’t hold back when he appeared on Fox & Friends recently to discuss Kaepernick. This was expected, considering that in a recent fundraising email sent to his supporters, Staat said that Kaepernick’s a “national disgrace and I’m tired of seeing him celebrated like he’s a hero.”
During the interview, Staat said that Kaepernick “knew what he was getting into when he decided to kneel and now he’s going to go ahead and capitalize, essentially extorting the black community and using Nike as his little shiny horse, if you will, to ride in on.”
The Marine vet has talked about Kaepernick many times during his run as a Republican. He’s tired of vets being treated horribly and law enforcement being attacked, adding, “If you want to be part of the solution, go out and find ways to make the problem better. Don’t go out and attack individuals who are just doing their jobs.”
Kapernick recently worked out for some NFL teams with the hope that he will get picked up by one. It will be interesting to see if his latest actions will have any effect on that.
