Marjorie Taylor Greene Wants to Abolish ATF

(UnitedVoice.com) – Democrats may have frozen Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene out of House committees, but she has not quit working for the American people. Most recently, she introduced a bill to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

On Thursday, June 17, MGT (as she is known) introduced a bill called the “Brian A. Terry Memorial Eliminate the ATF Act.” The law would abolish the ATF if Congress passes it and President Joe Biden signs it into law.

The legislation is named for Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, who, after being shot by armed suspects near Rio Rico, Arizona, died on December 15, 2010. Terry was trying to arrest the men who had been allegedly preying on illegal immigrants passing into America.

When he died, Terry was part of the Border Patrol unit that was participating in Operation Fast and Furious. That was the ATF operation that allowed criminals to buy weapons, and then the government was supposed to track them; but, they lost many of the guns. Later, those firearms were linked to crimes. It was a massive scandal during former President Barack Obama’s administration and, more than a decade later, nobody has really answered for it.

MGT’s bill would also force the ATF to auction off all of its confiscated firearms and ammo. The money made from the sales would go into a fund for the families of Border Patrol agents killed as a result of Operation Fast and Furious. Each family could receive up to $150,000.

It’s unclear if Democrats plan to support the families of the agents lost by joining MGT but it doesn’t seem likely.
