Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), one of President Trump’s strongest allies in Congress, has announced that he won’t run for re-election in 2020. He is the 21st Republican to announce his retirement from the House this year.
This announcement doesn’t mean that Meadows is retiring from politics. In a statement, Meadows said, “These last 8 years, I have been so blessed to serve the people of NC-11 and help give a voice to millions of Americans who feel Washington, DC has forgotten them,” adding his “work with President Trump and his administration is only beginning.”
Meadows has been an influential member of the House since his election in 2012. He also became a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus.
