(UnitedVoice.com) – First Lady Melania Trump had been making regular visits to hospitals and schools to promote her “Be Best” initiative for kids. But, after the hospitals stopped allowing visitors and schools closed because of the pandemic, she had to get creative with how she gives back to the country.
Last week, Melania made her first public appearance in a mask when she surprised the District of Columbia firefighters with lunch from the White House. She spent time visiting with the firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical services personnel. Along with the boxed lunches, she also delivered hand sanitizer, reusable face masks, and tote bags.
Today I met w/ @dcfireems & @DCPoliceDept members at Engine Company 9 fire station to drop off face masks, boxed lunches & other #BeBest items to show my appreciation for their work to provide critical life-saving services to keep our local communities healthy, secure & safe. pic.twitter.com/GwpEUTK5Ll

Melania said she and the president stand by the country’s dedicated firefighters, police, EMS workers, and first responders who literally risk their lives every day to keep communities safe.
The First Lady isn’t just comforting the first responders. The week before her outing with the firefighters, she made a surprise visit to The Mary Elizabeth House, where she delivered lunches and Be Best swag. The center provides support to single moms and their children.
This week Melania also joined a conference call with FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council (YPC). The YPC provides tools to educate kids on how to stay safe. The First Lady thanked all of the council members for their hard work, and she added it was never too soon for kids to learn how to cope during emergencies.
If Michelle Obama had made these kind gestures, the press would’ve fawned all over her. But they hardly cover Mrs. Trump. That’s not stopping her, though, from quietly doing her work and giving back to a grateful nation.
