Social media followers are mocking Melania Trump today after she made a very public and controversial speech on the challenges children face online. As she has in the past, the First Lady spoke out against bullying and encouraged parents to teach their kids kindness and respect. But some are calling the speech hypocritical; Melania’s own husband has been accused of bullying others online, especially on Twitter.
• Some naysayers responded to Melania’s post by encouraging her to start by reforming her husband’s social media activities first. One Twitter user, Nicole Dalton, said plainly, “Melania Trump is calling for parent’s to limit KIDS on their social media. She should Start with Donald Trump.”
• Florida shooting survivor Lauren Hogg also called on Melania to curb Donald Trump Jr’s alleged irresponsible “likes” online. The younger of the Trumps was accused of liking a post calling the shooting a conspiracy and accusing Hogg’s brother of being an FBI stooge just last week.
• Fortunately, not everyone sees the FLOTUS’s words as ironic or sarcastic. Many supporters applauded her for her efforts on tackling a difficult, multilayered topic other politicians simply haven’t touched.
• This isn’t the first time the First Lady has struggled with negative responses to her posts online. She was also heavily criticized for posting a picture of herself in a reindeer filter on SnapChat around Christmas.
