An adviser to former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced that he is considering running for president next year.
This is the second time the former mayor has considered running in 2020.
In a statement, Bloomberg’s adviser Howard Wolfson said:
“We now need to finish the job and ensure that Trump is defeated – but Mike is increasingly concerned that the current field of candidates is not well-positioned to do that. Based on his record of accomplishment, leadership and his ability to bring people together to drive change, Mike would be able to take the fight to Trump and win.”
According to the New York Times, Bloomberg called former Senator Harry Reid and had his aides reach out to Gov. Gina Raimondo, the chair of the Democratic Governors Association, to discuss his plans. He also sent staffers to Alabama to collect signatures so he can qualify for their primary. He’s expected to formally enter the race in Alabama by their Friday, November 9th deadline.
