(UnitedVoice.com) – On Monday, August 17, former First Lady Michelle Obama was the highlight speaker at the Democratic National Convention. The virtual speech was pre-recorded, and Obama wasted no time trying to take Trump down. However, in doing so, she got two significant facts wrong.
The former first lady repeated a false, often used Democratic talking point against President Trump. She accused him of using “cages” to hold illegal migrant children. President Trump didn’t sit still and take the incoming sitting down.
Somebody please explain to @MichelleObama that Donald J. Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama. Biden was merely an afterthought, a good reason for that very late & unenthusiastic endorsement…..

Obama was correct that the Trump administration temporarily housed kids with chain-link enclosures that Democrats love to call cages. However, she should’ve talked with her husband before making the statement.
The same “cages” the Trump administration used were built and used by the Obama administration, for the same purpose. Photos used in the past to criticize Trump were taken in 2014 while Obama was president.
In addition to the unforced error on immigrant housing, Obama also said Biden knew how to handle a pandemic. Yet, Biden has never done so. Obama may be referencing an Ebola epidemic in 2014.
The four cases in the US — one of which resulted in death — were due to people being sent home from Africa with the deadly virus. They were quarantined and cared for.
President Trump tweeted that Obama may be referencing the H1N1 Swine Flu. Regardless, the situations between the three are not comparable in either scope, size, or intensity.
It just goes to show, if you’re going to take shots at the current sitting president, it might be a good idea to have your facts straight.
