(UnitedVoice.com) – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee went after Disney in a fiery monologue on a recent episode of “Huckabee.” The Republican was angry about the company’s decision to speak out about Florida’s new parental rights law that bans discussions of sexuality and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade classrooms.
In March, after advocates put pressure on him, Disney CEO Bob Chapek spoke out against HB 241. In an email reportedly obtained by Rolling Stone magazine, he announced the company would stop giving money to Florida politicians and vowed to support activists who are fighting similar bills in other states. Huckabee accused the company of “immoral advocacy” and said it’s rejecting “traditional values of marriage and gender.”
Huckabee also told his viewers that “at least half of all the characters” in future Disney movies are going to be a member of the LGBTQ community. The former governor was referring to a Skype call where Karey Burke, president of Disney’s General Entertainment Content, said the company needs more LGBTQ characters. As the mother of two queer children, she said she wanted to see more characters like her kids.

Do you support what Disney is doing? Should the CEO be speaking out against bills or introducing more LGBTQ characters to children’s movies?
