Massive ATTACK – Dozens Reported Dead!
(UnitedVoice.com) – There’s been a rise in ethnic attacks in Ethiopia over the last few years, and hundreds of people have lost their lives this year alone. Sadly the list of casualties continues to grow.
On Monday, August 29, reports indicated Fano militants (part of the ethnic Amhara group) descended on the Wollega region of Ethiopia’s largest state, Oromia, and began targeting ethnic Oromos. A witness told The Associated Press the fighters began murdering “everyone they found.” More than 40 civilians lost their lives during the attack. The militia also set houses on fire, threatened the survivors, and stole cattle.

In June, the government and locals suspected the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) of murdering hundreds of members of the ethnic Amhara group in the same area. The OLA denied the accusation and instead blamed the government.
The latest massacre comes amid a civil war between the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and the federal government. A ceasefire between the factions fell apart at the end of August.
According to the AP, the fighters attacked the area one day after the Oromia regional forces withdrew from the area. Ethiopia’s Media Authority accused the Finfinnee Integrated Broadcast of spreading “fake and unconfirmed reports” by documenting the killings.
