Nancy Pelosi in Complete Denial Over Upcoming Midterm Elections
(UnitedVoice.com) – The midterm elections are less than a month away, and both parties are making last-minute pleas to voters. Democrats are fighting an uphill battle as they desperately try to keep their majorities in the House and the Senate. While political pundits and pollsters predict the Left will lose control of the lower chamber, at the very least, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) seems to be living on Earth 2.
A Denial of Reality?
Pelosi spoke to Punchbowl News recently and denied claims that Democrats were at a disadvantage in the midterms. According to Fox News, the speaker said the GOP has no plan to fight the “global” inflation problem. She also claimed her party is “in great shape” despite what others are saying.
Further, Pelosi claimed she thinks the issue of abortion is going to have a significant impact on the race next month. However, polls consistently show that while it’s undoubtedly an issue voters care about, it is way down on the list. Gallup conducted a study showing Americans are worried about the government’s poor leadership, immigration, racism, and unifying the country far more than they are about federal abortion rights.
A poll from The New York Times/Siena shows only 4% of registered voters believe abortion is the country’s most important issue. The economy is the number one issue, followed by inflation.
What’s the Deal?
When Democrats won the White House in 2020, that victory almost guaranteed they would lose seats in the 2022 midterms. Traditionally speaking, the party holding the executive branch loses seats in Congress during the next election. That’s held true for all presidents over the last two decades and perhaps even before.
The Democratic Party’s chances of maintaining its majority in the House became even more precarious when Republicans stomped Democrats in the 2020 congressional elections. Joe Biden won the presidency, but voters nationwide categorically rejected Progressives. The Left lost 13 seats in the lower chamber in the 2020 election. It was so bad, the GOP will only need to net five seats in the House to boot Pelosi out as Speaker.
FiveThirtyEight is predicting Republicans have a 75% chance of taking back control of the House. Real Clear Politics is also projecting the GOP will easily win the majority.
Do you think Pelosi is denying reality or just being hopeful? In your opinion, what’s the most critical issue facing the country?
