From January 1 to September 6, shootings in NYC increased by nearly 90% from the same period in 2019. Garbage is piling up on the streets, and the homeless are being housed in hotels as encampments crop up across the city.
The business group Partnership for New York City organized the effort, which included the heads of Macy’s, MasterCard, Etsy, Morgan Stanley, the WNBA and businesses of all sizes. They are demanding Mayor Bill de Blasio do something to restore essential services as the city prepares to return to some sense of normalcy. The business leaders state that conditions are deteriorating in commercial districts and neighborhoods and will affect the city’s ability to recover from COVID-19.
The companies said their clients, employees and customers deserve to come to a place that’s healthy, safe to work in, and offers a good quality of life.
What will Blasio do about it? Stay tuned – we’ll keep you informed.
