Obama: Biden and Socialist Sanders Not That Different

(UnitedVoice.com) – Throughout the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Democrats attempted to paint Joe Biden as a moderate centrist. However, in the weeks leading up to the convention, that was very different from what far-left Democrats were saying. Now, former President Barack Obama may be affirming that Biden is not a moderate but, instead, farther left than anyone thought.

During the fall primary, Biden ran to the right of his opponents. That’s not saying much. Nonetheless, the former vice president was successful in convincing the majority of Democratic primary voters that he was moderate enough to defeat Donald Trump this fall, and for them, that was enough.

However, once Biden secured the delegates, he decided he had to court the far-left to defeat Trump. Every vote counts. To win them over, he swung a deal with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), took much of his extreme platform, and made the Democratic Convention platform the most far-left of any in the history of either political party. While embracing the far-left, Biden must walk a tightrope and maintain the support of moderates in the party who may see his swing left as too radical.

Obama Compares Biden to Sanders

One has to wonder if Obama is trying to help or hurt Biden? In a piece in The New Yorker that ran on Sunday, August 23, the former president was asked how he interpreted Biden’s move to the left since he ran as a moderate. Obama has a very high approval rating among Democrats, and his words hold a lot of weight within the party.

Obama compared Biden to far-left socialist Sanders. He said, “If you look at Joe Biden’s goals and Bernie Sanders’s goals, they’re not that different, from a forty-thousand-foot level.” He further said the issue wasn’t one of policy, but tactics.

In other words, how swiftly and decisive should Biden move the country to the left if he is elected president in November? Sanders wants an immediate revolution. Biden may move too slow for his liking. One way or another, the country will move left under a Biden presidency.

Don’t Believe Obama? Biden Said It in His Own Words!

Over the weekend, Democratic media pundits across the various Sunday talk shows tried to paint the picture that Biden is an established moderate based on his 40-year track record. However, the past is no indication of future results. The party is changing, and Biden along with it by his own admission:

For the moment, the party seems unified around defeating Trump. As Democrats come to terms with Biden’s shift left there are numerous questions they must reconcile

  • Is Biden’s shift left a step too far for moderates?
  • If Biden doesn’t go all-in on the left this fall, will he lose Sanders’ support?
  • Is defeating Trump enough of a uniting issue to hold the far-left and moderates together?

The answer to these three questions is the key to the election for Democrats.

It’s going to be an election season unlike any before!
