(UnitedVoice.com) – On June 24, President Joe Biden announced a bipartisan infrastructure agreement. The proposal, which comes to less than $1 trillion, is far less than the nearly $3-trillion package the president originally wanted. A lot of Democrats are not happy about the process and its outcome. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was especially angry.
AOC went on a tweetstorm Thursday to complain about the process. She started by slamming the “bipartisan coalition” for not being diverse enough. The congresswoman was angry that the lawmakers negotiating the package were white. She said the package is “not acceptable” and the “exclusion & denial of our communities is what DC bipartisan deals require.” AOC went on to say that “corporations & structural racism” are the ones who benefit from bipartisan bills.
The diversity of this “bipartisan coalition” pretty perfectly conveys which communities get centered and which get left behind when leaders prioritize bipartisan dealmaking over inclusive lawmaking (which prioritizes delivering the most impact possible for the most people) https://t.co/U6bqd9o51C

Instead of being happy that the American people are going to benefit from a massive infrastructure bill, she’s playing the race card and turning the agreement into a negative thing. Congress is supposed to compromise to pass bills. That is why the House and Senate each negotiate one and then reconcile them before they’re sent to the president’s desk. Unfortunately, the congresswoman doesn’t seem to understand how the legislative branch works. Perhaps it’s time for someone to sit down with her while she watches “I’m Just a Bill” from Schoolhouse Rock! before she tries to speak again.
