(UnitedVoice.com) – Moms for Liberty has grown into one of the country’s most influential grassroots parental rights groups. It has also faced a significant amount of backlash from civil rights groups and those on the Left. Most recently, a New Hampshire state lawmaker compared the organization spearheaded by mothers to Islamic extremists.
On July 9, State Rep. Catherine Sofikitis (D) responded to a Twitter user’s request to describe how they feel about Moms for Liberty. She called the group “a**holes with casseroles, [the] taliban in minivan.” She doubled down on the insults by sharing a video by a leftist who called Moms for Liberty a fascist organization.

Sofikitis then got a barrage of comments, some of which made fun of her appearance. The lawmaker responded a few days later with another photo of her on prom day with her date, saying it was proof that she wasn’t “too fat and ugly to have gotten a date” to the dance.

Moms for Liberty isn’t just taking heat from the unknown lawmaker. The group was also labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The think tank takes issue with the parental rights group opposing inclusive policies for LGBTQ+ students, promoting book bans, and pushing for a more conservative curriculum in districts across the country.
The group claims it exists to combat “woke indoctrination” in schools.
The New Hampshire Journal reached out to Tina Descovich, one of the co-founders of Moms for Liberty, and asked what she thought about the lawmaker’s remarks. Descovich responded by saying the members of the group are “joyful warriors” reclaiming the “failing education system across America.” She went on to express the hope that all officials will decide to collaborate with “parents to ensure a brighter future for all children instead of demonizing” them.
